To Run Again

The tiny taste we had of spring resulted in a few 67 degree days. Days that made anything feel possible...so I ran. And I ran. And it felt good just to be free, lighthearted, unweighted, with vision again. 3 oldest by my side we just ran in the quiet. I remembered what it feels like to be strong, to be fierce, to overcome the heaviness that can exist here at times, the physical pain of body while mind fights to win the war that rages within head, fighting mind battles of all sorts about all of life, to challenge endurance, everything I am, everything I'm not, everything I can be, all that I want to be, everything I don't. The ear piercing chaos of a million frogs filling marshes, sun, blue sky, up the hills, down the hills, whispering pines stretching majestically 40 feet into blue sky, utter smallness, pumping heart, the sight of it all, the sound of it all, the smell of it all. Pines that whisper to the soul, fill the senses, sweet grass, Carolina air, cardinals that fill trees, daffodils and dogwoods scattered haphazardly through forest filling dull landscape with reminders that this season of winter is almost over. So much more lies ahead. So I continue to run. 2 miles a day with more to come. Because I remembered what it is to feel strong, to feel power pumping through body, to know that I can do anything, to learn my limitations and weaknesses so I can better myself at overcoming them, to intimately remember the smallness and fragility of life itself.

In response to the many questions and perplexed minds asking about our decision to return to our homeland....it will be a blog post at some point. Until then, please know.....we are not miserable here. Quite the contrary, actually. It is a multifaceted, deep heart issue that is so much more far reaching than a mere "No Trespassing" sign....or really about 50 of them, which, of course, has a story of its own, as all things do. I suppose I should've written far more than a few random, vague sentences and given a bit of heart insight. This place in life is amazing. Surprising, unanticipated changes of all sorts taking place. And we are happy here. It's a place of peace and rest for our family in a very physically beautiful place in the US....surrounded by a few beautiful people that have become our east coast family. People that have contributed so much to our family that we surely would've sunk had they not been brought into our life.

We are still many months away from locale change. 18-24 months to be exact. And while the entire family's heart is to return to our homeland we all know intimately that we can make plans but a lot of life can happen between now and then...and what we want is not always what's supposed to take place.

I know better than anyone not to set our hearts on any one thing in life anymore. Fluid, flexible, moldable, pliable....ride the wind and embrace the direction it takes. Embrace the change. But while we live out the upcoming months as we plan, we love where we are. Our landlady is amazing, our hostile neighbor has had a complete heart change concerning our family, she has had some level of influence on the other neighbors that remain entirely skeptical over 109 kids in one family. We have people here we love, the children have access to resources that will not exist in rural Texas towns, and life is rich and abundant. Our house is small but entirely homey. We are buried in privacy, nestled into trees on a dreamy little farm with open pastures and grazing horses to which we awake in the mornings. Some people say we are crazy to leave while others are begging our Texas return, while more are begging us to stay. Many do not understand it while others are wondering what's taken us so long to "come to our senses". We are at a place to fully embrace everything that is here...knowing it will come to an end if everything goes according to the plans we have made. And right now there is no right or wrong choice, no better than the other choice. It is what we as a family have discussed and decided. But know, that while we make these plans there are many within our heart. We have learned deeply that the greater purpose will indeed prevail and we will end up where we are supposed to be....whether that results in remaining here despite what homesick hearts yearn to do, or to indeed return to our native homeland where the Texas flag flies majestically and is the embodiment of freedom to us. Right here, right now, is a very beautiful place to be in life. And we are happy, at peace, and very content to embrace the here and now moment which we occupy. The peace, contentment, and happy hearts are pretty unprecedented.

In more comical, rather mindless news...I would highly advise one not go 5 entire days without ingesting any carbs, run 2 miles everyday those 5 entire days, allow one's body to inadvertently go into a state of rather severe ketosis, and then give yourself a true, seriously legitimate concussion by running into a bathroom door frame. Your body may very well revolt and go on strike. Back to carb eating, balance in life and diet....and maybe perhaps paying attention to where you're going.

Total Randomness

Outside my window....
Ice. And a ton of it. On March 18th.

I am thinking...
Single random one sentence thoughts.

We're not in Texas anymore.
Texas really is a state of mind.
Texas: It's a whole other country.
Homesick.
People do not know what it is to just live in peace here.
18 more months.
Westward bound.
Dragging up stakes.
Heading home.
1700 miles back the other direction.
It's time to go home.
#75 - Texans of all political stripes are usually super serious about their freedom and think everyone should be able to do whatever the heck they want as long as it's not hurting anyone.
Fact: Everyone lives by that code within the state of Texas.
Fact: The rest of the world does not think like that.
Transplants that did not transplant so well.
The grass is not always greener.
14 people back the other direction.
I miss Texas freedom.
Hatted ranchers. Booted cowboys. Single finger lifted by pickup driving old men....sheer respect for existence beyond themselves.
Love Project is over now.
Oct. 2015. Westward Bound.
Home...where the southwest winds blow, people are kind, moon sits like an orb of liquid gold on horizon, Milky Way unfurls a silver ribbon through dark night sky.
Family. Friends.
Mom, Dad, Brother, Pawpaw.
Going home.

There could be no better depiction of large family life in this state. Perhaps of large family life as a whole anywhere.

I am thankful for....
Cardinals that outnumber anything I have ever seen in life...that sit as perfectly perched crimson ornaments on every branch outside our bedroom window...that mesmerize in early morning light. Cardinals that fly across driveway in mass as we slowly creep down in diesel running truck. Trees that tuck us away from all of the world. For a time in life to live in this physically beautiful place. Beloved, faithful dog that runs in freedom for the first time in 2 1/2 yrs. For the time and people we have been given here before it is time to head home. For a plan to go home. For all the experiences we have had and continue to have as we are grown and changed and transformed into something better than we ever were before. For the people that have been used to grow us and teach us about life. ..everything I want to be and don't want to be...for all the impact they have made on us and within the lives of our children. For all the good and all the bad....it's helping us raise them. An amazing Boy Scout troop. Opportunities to travel. The most amazing scout master I have ever known. People that willingly donate their time on cold sleeting nights to come speak, educate kids, and the ability to help a 16 year old achieve Eagle within his lifetime. For a diesel beast that sits quietly in driveway and will oneday see the road again. For the light hearts of children that keep us laughing continuously with their funny antics and the absurdity of all that we continue to encounter. Windows....absolutely everywhere. Sunlight. No paneling. No sickness. Concrete  floors. Overwhelming gratefulness for our house of light and sun and love and laughter.

I am wearing.....
4 shirts, 3 pair of sweat pants, 5 pair of socks, 2 hats, 2 pair of gloves and a ski mask under about 5 blankets.

I am hearing.....
a ton of rowdy boys playing an intense game of football on playstation, a lot of boy laughter, a lot of male rough housing and a 5 yr old girl right in the big middle of it all telling them the next play to make.

I am pondering....
how a week's worth of P90X can so convince a person that sexy has met its match, that despite any past pictures the present moment is the best one has ever looked or felt, and continue on to make one delusional enough to actually think they possess enough strength and endurance to conquer Everest...until they attempt to climb 5 lone steps...and can only make it up 3. Feel the burn.

I am wondering......
if all that we have been through has prepared us for such a time and place as this.

I am reading...

I am going.....
to someday remember the lines we had going for two bathrooms and I will laugh then like I do now at the absurdity of what it must look like and all the people running back and forth between bathrooms trying to find a free one. The view from outside looking in will forever be a comical one.

I am smelling...
coffee and baking bread.

I am noticing....
that attempting to clean 1500 sq ft with 14 people in it is the absolute epitome of insanity....or seriously like eating Oreos while brushing your teeth. And that maybe living on white concrete floors on a farm where red mud runs rampant with 12 outside loving kids will develop character, patience, an undeniable ability to overlook some stuff and truly be at peace with the fact that your house might really never be spotlessly clean....because it is indeed an impossible feat. But....it is ALL absolutely wipeable and disinfectable and it's NOT carpet. Amen.

I am remembering.....
shift night, perfect, steamy, quiet bubble bath in huge deep tub, long past bedtime....and a little voice on the other side of the door
"Mom, did you get your beer and candles??? Mom!!! Can you hear me? Did you get your beer and candles???"

Me: "Oh  Ivye....are you serious?!?! You cut your hair AGAIN?????"

Ivye, unexcitedly and rather dully: "Oh. No ma'am, that wasn't me. Baby A did that.

"WHY would you let him do that??? You now have even worse bangs than you did before. You're 5. He's THREE. Why do you keep letting him cut your hair??"

Ivye: "Well....I can't help it if he hides the scissors under his pillow."

Apparently little safety, art scissors are perfectly capable of styling hair and inflicting bangs....over and over...and over...again.

And just maybe that's why bed sheets have recently begun resembling the beginnings of a new origami passion????

Life in pics......

Busy.

Celebrating freedom.

Off the trolley and happily within the boundaries.

Big enough to finally join the big guys outside....and pretty happy about it.

Her real live baby doll.

When all grows quiet.

Roaming in freedom.

Hard working boys.

Blessed are those who persevere for they shall eventually conquer. Yep. I did it. After years and years..and more years...of kitchen tantrums and adapting the vocabulary of a sailor. Behold the glory.

Early morning baby love.

Bringing it to life a little at a time.

When daddy's home. A rather quiet and mild dinner prep considering what it usually looks like.

Life in Pics

I have every knowledge that this is just about the most boring and overused title of mine right now....but due to lack of feeling the creativity vibe at the current moment....the post is stuck with it. Because this post is exactly that. Picture catch up. Due to integrating a new computer and several new devices into our family system picture uploading has been slow. With  a lot of life happening there has been very little time to make any new posts. Thank you for loving us, checking in on us, and for the concerned questions when we go missing for a bit. Here are some promised pics until another word heavy laden post can be made. In all the switch between electronics some pictures have been uploaded to a storage device that is, for now, inaccessible since navigating it all has proven to include a pretty steep learning curve. But, I think there's still plenty left to get the general idea of life in our tiny little abode. Fence system is in....finally. I'm fairly certain we had 3 acres worth of wire buried in record time. Yet another one of the many advantages to a ton of working kids. Divide and conquer! Dogs are that much closer to freedom and neighbor is that much closer to being totally at peace with us. Garden plans have been laid out, tiller has been rented, ground prepping has begun. I didn't think it was humanly possible to be this excited over watching something grow. I also underestimated the need for a PhD in order to make seed selections. To live in a place that grows things....it's still an absolute novelty. I have discovered my new passion is just creating...watching it all grow. Flowers, bushes, vegetables, fruit trees. There is no greater miracle than watching something of substance grow from something so tiny and so nearly non existent.

This past Christmas was probably 2nd runner up in one of the loneliest, most difficult times of being here. Somewhere I thought that 2 1/2 yrs here would eventually settle us in..but finding our normal here seems ever elusive. And moving....moving is just always difficult...even when it's from somewhere so unkept to somewhere so relatively dreamy. It still is upheaval of all of life, structure, organization, and settling 14 people in a space that was built to accommodate about 4. Someday a blog post will follow on that note. Until then....working husband and I decided to surprise children with a Christmas redo and have a "Celebrate Love" holiday. Valentine's provided the perfect opportunity for just that. Complete with balloons, party food, streamers, gifts, and no stress we succeeded in creating our very own new holiday that surpassed any Christmas we have ever had. We thanked children for going above and beyond what most adults will ever in a lifetime do, for rising above the mundane and going the extra mile, for walking out the past 2 1/2 yrs with us with such amazing attitudes, for enduring such heavy scrutiny and criticism with such grace, for embracing love when all of life screams to run the other direction, for loving all the seemingly unloveable in life, for allowing this time in life to pull all of us together instead of driving us apart. We celebrated health....as it's the first time in 2 1/2 yrs we haven't been sick constantly. Mice and mold induced sicknesses are a thing of the past and we all have actually gone without any stomach or bronchial related issues since living on our little farm. We thanked them for all they are and all they are becoming, their many....many.....sacrifices along the way and the way they have learned contentment and joy....even when we struggle. For all that we have faced, all that we have come up against, all that we have conquered....we have grown. So, in honor of them we created our own appreciation/celebration love holiday....and we celebrated like Christmas....in February. And it was the most amazing thing we have ever done. It was a much needed morale booster and made our little farm feel a little more like home. As part of the celebration and gifts their desires for a swingset finally came true...so the last few weeks of life have consisted in a LOT of outside hours, as they all work with daddy to bring it to life and I work on dogs, fence and garden. It is an absolutely amazing thing to be in a place with open pastures, sun, open sky, and grassy areas for singsets, trampolines, garden and composting while a forested wonderland of creeks, frogs, turtles, plants, raccoons and deer lies just beyond the tree line.

There are no words for just how much this girl is loved and just how cute she is.

When he plays and sings to me. Lady Antebellum "When You Got a Good Thing", "Heart of the World", Brad Paisley "Then". He makes the whole world a better place...and he's just kinda sexy.

Maybe your mom's pregnant a lot when.....

Free to play all hidden in paradise.

The butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker....and their little ballerina in tow.

Mesmerized by being able to watch daddy running calls. Footage he brought home from work.

Having an entire conversation while we clean.

I'd say he's got his work cut out for him.

The many different faces of mischief and total fun.

Forest love.

 Lunchtime company.

Grainy but so sweet. Somewhere along the way he just got so big.

The one in the pillowcase....yeah. I have no clue.

Intense games of Crash Bandicoot while loving on baby girl.

Love Day shopping buddy.

My most favorite thing about having one vehicle. Waiting for him in the early morning light.

Yep. No helmets. But they lived..and big brother accomplished the job of bringing home the straggler left behind by racing siblings. .

She has my heart.

When a dream comes true. His very own BJJ gi.

When you live in mud.....pallets serve a multitude of purposes. I just really love this.

Visible evidence that love and kindness reap eternal rewards. Love gifts from Neighbor D. What you sow, you will reap.....literally and in every other way. For the history and rough start of living beside neighbor D....see here.

My amazing mom and deeply missed, TX living brother 2 hours after she and motorcycle man were hit on his bike by a red light runner. The face of strength and love. Injuries suffered were identical compound fractures of their right legs.  One surgery, one steel rod, a few screws and one steel plate later for each of them they are home and doing well. It's a very difficult thing to live this far away when you need to go home. They sure are smily to each have bones sticking out of their legs at the moment.

 Helpin' daddy.

The fruits of their labor. Patiently...or not so patiently....waiting for the net.

Boy activity of the early morning....squishing the ant.

A little bit of throwback as we go through old pictures. Daddy and his 2 wk old Evye-girl.

Uncle Scott/Eagle Scout and cub scout Grayson

Lookin' a little bit like all of her siblings.

Slip slidin' around. The life of a public safety family. When all the rest of the world stays home....you're out in it. Living in the arctic tundra. I'm fairly certain this has been the longest winter known to mankind. Pretty beautiful stuff though.

Waiting our turn at the DMV. Cold rainy day errands.

Forever her buddy. Never alone. These two are proving to be the best of buds.

Selfies at the age of 3. Who knew. All the surprises that await us on the phones when pics are downloaded.

Warmer days and cabin fevered kids! Finally outside again.

What 10 days worth of waiting and hoping looks like when it all comes true. He has a forever friend in the UPS man now.

"Helpers" preparing it all for flowers. Lots and lots of flowers.

Maybe these two were cut from the same mold. An almost 2 yr old Gates and an almost 2 yr old Grayson.

How many people can you fit on one couch????? This is not including the dog laying on my feet out of camera sight.

Listening to audiobooks with a rapt audience.

Spring is coming!
