Anger's Own Worst Enemy

Because I've learned to see I've had the greatest teachers of all time. And we've learned the absolute power this truth holds. Each and every teacher we have had....they are who taught us how to live out the law of love in ways I thought unimaginable. We've learned to give tangibly, to meet needs, to transcend, and know all those that seek to inflict hurt...they hurt too. It's taught us empathy, compassion, kindness...but, most of all, it's taught us how to love. Love without borders, without limitations, without criticism, without judgement, without expecting others to live up to some preconceived expectations I have set, or that I personally feel a certain doctrine or theory implies. It's taught me how to forgive all that was unintentionally inflicted.....and all that was very much intentionally inflicted. And it's taught me how to see the soul behind the eyes, instead of the offense.

Forgiveness......

it's a word tossed around like a rag doll in religions, something so common it's not even given depth anymore. And to those outside of a religious belief system...it's scoffed and laughed at due to the reputation it's been given by those religiously engaged. It's become a sign of weakness and perceived as the offender having walked away in victory.  But, there could be no greater misconception....no greater liberator. It spans the world...every race, every religion, every ethnicity, every belief system. It is the journey of leaning how to love...and finding abiding happiness.

Forgiveness...there is no greater path to freedom. It is the embodiment of liberation. Because we know intimately what it is to live this out. The last 5 years....they've been amazing. Difficult in every sense...but worth it all to know this place in life. No longer entangled by the web of insecurity, jealousy, grudges, spiritual angst and strife, anger....no longer entangled by unforgiveness. To fly free from the rubble below....and just be happy. To go where the people dance.

"Consequently, I found myself angry and bitter. I would talk bad about them to others. And it even became difficult to sleep or be happy. I was obsessed. It was 9 months later when it finally happened. After reading this quote on the back of a flyer lying on the ground of a parking lot.

'Forgiveness is like letting a prisoner free,
and finding out the prisoner was you.'

And so it began. I made the tough emotional decision to let it pass. To let myself free and be joyful once again." *

Because everyone needs to experience what it is to fly free.

15 Years

Life is full and blogging is almost entirely non existent right now. School is absolutely amazing. I really will follow up and explain making my way into corporate America. Questions continue to fly. I cannot answer until we have many more details. But exciting stuff continues to take place daily, progress is being made,  and there is success in so many areas of life. New doors and new worlds. Facebook is still proving the best way to keep up with us...and probably will be until I graduate. I have the week off from school so a picture post will come. Until then....we celebrated 15 years of marriage this week. This was one of of his gifts to me and has proven to be one of the most amazing things he has ever given. It captures the epitome of our lives. It's real. It's raw. It's honest. And it's us.

When It All Starts to Change

I tell this story in its entirety...and I honestly hope this is one post you do actually survive til the end....because I want people to know that we are not just one of those "lucky" or "blessed". I am that one in life that had made a habit of saying..."Yeah, but that'll never happen to us." It's taken time to unlearn and relearn healthy habits and thought processes. We are not just blessed or lucky....this life and these types of events are possible for every single person. But it takes changing what you've always done to get what you've never experienced before. And this journey of loving people...it's a phenomenal thing. Because when you start to love people, they begin to love you back in extraordinary ways. When you start to love the world, the world begins to love you in return. And when you live kindness and you live gratitude in extraordinary ways....gratitude and kindness, they find you.

4:30 am. I take these precious hours that should be spent studying to fill in the information gaps now existing on this blog. To give up these sweet, quiet, dark morning hours of study and school to instead write, is a sacrifice of large magnitude. But, I will continue to tell our story....because this is a journey of epic proportions.

Within only a matter of weeks it seems that all of life has turned upside down. Our dream has become our reality. Visions manifest in a series of life changing events. But, simply put, our life these days is the result of giving and giving and giving....when the world said we were crazy, when most refused to help, said our kids were being deprived due to our lack of money management, pouring our fragile budget into the "black hole of a landlord that needed to be taken to court", giving when we didn't have it to give....and forgiving over and over....and a thousand more times over....again throughout the course of the last 5 years we have lived. It is the growing and coming out of 5 years worth of tears and relearning how to think and live. It is the result of months and months of 4:30 am mornings and working harder than I ever have for something I believe in. It looks like work while the rest of the world sleeps. It looks like digging deep and finding what you're really made of, keeping ungodly hours, up late and up again early, and being wife, mom, house manager, primary vehicle driver, and so much more while people laughingly and haphazardly toss out the phrase "I could never do that!" It is the result of being willing to do something you've never done before to get something you've never had before. It is the epitome of true success. It's learning to believe in myself and look at life very, very differently.....being willing to overcome and find a solution to every obstacle encountered. But most of all...if you don't take anything else away from our story...it is the journey of unconditionally loving. And if you learn nothing else from us let this stick with you always....I want people to know when we begin to love so far outside of the box and we begin to see people and souls in their rawest, messiest, most human, imperfect form and we no longer see all the "injustices" done to us, injustices inflicted upon our life, our belief system, our morals, our ethics, what we think we're "owed", our "convictions", the "assaults" on our life by others....life begins to change. We begin to see and move and act with the eyes of our heart and not our head. The secret of life lies wholly in total gratitude, unconditional love, and absolute kindness. For in those things all other life is derived....and days begin to be painted in bold, vivid colors with purpose and passion. It is then that vision and purpose come because it is then that the compassionate, moldable, pliable part of us can be used and worked with to further the world. It is then that we are free to truly help and serve others. And until you have learned to serve and to love and just to aid fellow humanity in utmost humility, you will live empty.

So, with that prefaced and with much thanks to facebook, most of you are aware that we now have a van. As I work to maintain balance between the craziness of life right now, the blog has had to take a backseat over the course of my time in school and managing life....so this post is a little behind on the times.

For those new to our story....it's a long road. But, in short, we have lived two entire years as a single vehicle family of 13/14 people. Through a lot of tears, frustration, anger....and a whole ton of laughter...we have learned to make a 6 seat quad cab Dodge diesel truck work as our primary source of transportation. And no, we don't drive illegally and cram us all in. We have the capacity to take only 5-6 of us everywhere we go...which means more than half of us are left behind....and a whole lot of carseats in and out and in and out and in and out. We have not gone anywhere as an entire family for two years, with the exception of one week where we were given a vacationing friend's 7 passenger minivan to celebrate Christmas dinner out on the town. Between our truck and their minivan we were actually mobile for 7 days. We are told of many families' struggling as it takes two vehicles to transport the family...and while I feel their pain....it still is not the same. Though not ideal, those families do have the ability to be mobile. Yes, gas funds do become an issue, you're not all together in one vehicle having fun...but these families....they do have the ability to actually attend events as an entire family. People do not even begin to really wrap their head around the fact that we have not been out of the house as an entire family unit in two years. And we absolutely love being together. We shop together, travel together, field trip together, hike together, run errands together, drop and pick kids up together. No man left behind. So, the reality of what life has looked like for us day in and day out over the course of the last two years has been a very tough adjustment. It looked like an older kid always left home with others. It looked like lots of tears as ones that wanted to go got left behind. It looked like a whole lot of learning to work together very cohesively, taking turns, giving up one's "right" to go as another one struggled with something and needed extra time, a lot of 14 people learning to work like a well oiled machine. It looked like sacrificing study hours to take husband to and from work in quiet early morning hours, a lot of making up study in creative little slots of the day...late nights and very early mornings. It looked like finally giving up everything to which I've long held onto....watching through so many tears a van being towed away forever and learning what it is to clear the negative pathways in life in order to allow the new to enter....never knowing when new would come. It eventually turned from anger as we passed other 15 passengers on the road, to just tears, to just longing, to just a bittersweet smile knowing it would be us at some point again. It was the bittersweet longing two nights a week as all the other large families played at football practice and I had just 3 or 4 of my kids while husband worked and others were left at home babysitting the ones whose turn had come to stay home. But it has also been an absolute shift in learning how to make the absolute best of something, giving up everything I have ever hung onto, learn the art of staying positive, and learning to overcome. You think you're positive...until you are faced with struggles of epic proportions. America does not even begin to comprehend only one vehicle that doesn't fit your family. And we have been judged....a lot. Money management. Time management. Family size management. Pretty much everything management. And so it was we just learned how to tune out the static noise of other's opinions and began to see and learn how to make the best of the situation. I figured out free WIFI was available at the football field and I took school work, class assignments, and business related work and used those hours each week to work. I used quiet road time in the early morning as envisioning what our life is becoming. I juggled and balanced and used it to listen to class lectures on the road. And I just learned how to manage time unlike ever before, kids learned a depth of working together that would've been otherwise pretty impossible to fathom, and we made it work.

So.....the crazy, insane question that is driving everybody nuts....WHERE did it come from?????? And WHAT are the changes taking place????? WHY is there no car payment attached to the brand new 2014 108 mile beast now sitting in our driveway smiling at me every single morning??? Why? Because it is the flagship wonder now traversing the roads of the eastern side of the US of what love and a whole lot of hard work is capable of doing. While the oil business is growing substantially and financial progress is being made a vehicle of this magnitude was still a seemingly infinite amount of time away. So, I made a vision board, I worked, I believed, and I began to focus on how I can actually contribute to the world instead of taking from it.....and while I am confident our children will each contribute to the betterment of society as a whole, it did not include saying my children are my contribution to the world. It was on a much more personal level. Me, as a person, how can I give and not take....help instead of continually being so victimized by circumstances.  And personal vision came, purpose came, the purest, most primal desire to give back exceedingly so far surpassed my desire to receive...and then the vision board began to come to life. After watching many, many other things take shape such as school, financial goals, etc, over the course of the last few months this came....

(As requested by those involved in this story, all names have been left out of this).

Friday, August 15th, off shift husband and myself, along with 3 boys, ran errands. Husband's phone rings....man on other end gave a number and a name with instructions to call it. He stated that it concerned a van that needed a delivery date to us. There was some shock from husband and a few tears. I think we both immediately envisioned an older, used, vehicle. Our minds filled with someone that knew of our need and had chosen to give us their van as they replaced theirs or came across one for sale. But, one thing about the road we have walked...there is absolute appreciation for everything...and it didn't even begin to matter what shape it was in, the make, the model, the year. It was a VAN with 4 rows. But then husband began to cry. As he continued to talk to man on the other end, the tears fell like rain. Brand new, 2014, metallic blue van with all leather seats and vinyl, washable, cleanable floor. Backup safety alarm for dogs and kids, all the bells and whistles. Auxiliary outlet to hook up to devices for good music...because we absolutely LOVE windows down and crazy music. Funds were also given to put a roof rack, ladder, and front end replacement on it. We called the man and the number husband was given....and it was all true. 15 passenger waiting for us in SC and they needed an available date for delivery. The same way our engineless van left with all the tears would be the same way a new one arrived...on the back of a trailer. We made it home managing not to spill the news to kids over the phone and announced it all in person. There were cheers, shock, disbelief, tears, and lots and lots of general, excited, chaotic noise.

For story behind this pic see post here.

The next morning, delivery day, dawned and call from dealership revealed that delivery driver was sick. Delivery day would not happen til later the following week. After discussing it with family, it was excitedly agreed husband, oldest daughter, lively Junebug girl, 2 year old C man and I would just load up spontaneously and go. Within an hour we were SC bound. So it was that Saturday, August 16th, we drove up to a dealership and confirmed that it all was real as our van sat waiting front and center of dealership doors. We were given gold star treatment by dealership as we signed papers, smiled and laughed lots with them. And I drove away in a van following behind a big, red, trusty, diesel quad cab truck that I have come to know and love so well. 3 kids and I rolled the windows down, laughed, turned the music up, and drove the 3 1/2 hours back to the excited waiting crowd. We returned to ones left behind hanging from trees, sitting on bikes, and waiting impatiently as we rounded the curves of driveway.

Phone call from giver later that night said it all....
"It's because of the way you love."

More to follow on all the changes taking place within our lives, the mysterious FB post concerning "corporate America" and the direction our life has taken. It's pretty surreal....and an absolutely beautiful life. As of now, I have sacrificed morning school hours to make this post....so that's all you get! :)

Let this be your message...to go love a little more. We are not one of those that have ever been "the lucky one" or "they're just blessed". After years and years of struggling....brutal, hard life lessons....we just learned to love and be kind to others....to show compassion to everything that doesn't look like us, carrying out random acts of kindness, controversial as though they may be. We learned to love and give outside of the acceptable box. When you give, you are given to. When you are compassionate, people show compassion. When you show kindness, kindness is shown. And when you love, you become loved.

Going Under Construction

The blog will be temporarily under construction for an unknown length of time. I am excited to announce the upcoming launch of a new website! While I will continue to post here sporadically until its launch, most time, energy, and effort will be focused on school and developing the new site over the course of the next few months. Please be patient with the rare posts here. Check back often and follow us on over to our new home. We will make the grand announcement once our new location is up and running! Until then, the best place to keep up with us is here on facebook, as fairly regular activity takes place there right now. Posts are public so "friending" is not required, just hit the "follow" option. An Instagram account (medicinemansgirl) also exists and activity on it will be forthcoming. This is an amazing opportunity for us and life is certainly expanding and growing in ways that make your heart skip a beat. How grateful I am for each of you that have stuck with us throughout the years, encouraged us like you have, and loved us through the searching, the rough places, all the highs and the many lows. If you are new to our story just know....we have come a long, LONG way. If you're a regular reader please comment on here, facebook or Instagram, or PM on FB or just shoot an email to medicinemansgirl@yahoo.com if you are cyberworld wary, and introduce yourself. I see the regular traffic and I would love to be able to put a "face" and personality to all of you that have actually stuck with us. I am so grateful to be surrounded by so many. Your presence is not taken for granted. And please be patient with the blog. Good things are to come and the best is yet to be!

It's Time

Because when you finally believe in yourself and realize that your thoughts shape your life...anything is possible. Because I can...and I will. I am limitless. I have wings now. And I can fly. Chains have finally fallen away and eyes have opened. Because there is too much life to live. It's a gift. And it's fleeting. And it's time to step up and do more. Your time as a caterpillar has expired. Your wings are ready. So I'm gonna go fly now. Because our thoughts are our reality. Because I am successful, I am sexy, I am determined, driven, unstoppable. I am fearless. And anything is possible. Because I have a life story and it's gonna be told. Because the number of children I have does not define me. The message I leave does. I'm going to inspire the world and make it a better place.....one person, one act of compassion, one need unconditionally met at a time. I will raise children that do the same. And I am being given the tools to make this dream a reality on a much larger scale that I only ever envisioned.

And so it is that we received word this past Thurs that I qualified for a large scholarship to the world's top rated, #1 online nutrition/health coach certification school, the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. For what remained, my tuition was privately paid in full based on both past and current academic performance, character, assertiveness, diligence, determination, an unconditional love for our family, and my courage to pursue something so ambitious on such a large scale while still raising 12 children with a shift working husband. Because somebody believed in me. I start school July 14th. It is one of the scariest, most exhilarating things I have ever done. Our life is changing...and I know it will never be the same. That moment on Thurs, every emotion coursing through body, staring into blue eyes of husband, laughing, scared, excited, nervous....this is the turning point. Everything we've been given, all these years lived....it begins to count now. I will be a world changer and I'm not afraid of it. Because people need encouragement. They need to know anything is possible. They need to be loved. They need to know they have a story. Because the world has so many mean, preoccupied, self absorbed people that need to be reminded what it is to be kind, to love...and in just loving and in serving lies the most rewarding, fulfilling, unimaginable life. With one act of kindness...one person moved with absolute compassion....the ripple effect is begun. Because people are absolutely desperate for hope, and love, and someone that is just kind and absent of judgment. Because the world has forgotten what it is to just love limitlessly and our family is going to remind it that we are all one. Because in our rawest form of humanity...stripped bare of socioeconomic class, religion, gender preference, political stance....we are one. There is no level. There is no measuring stick. There is just unconditional love. And you either unconditionally love or you don't. It's that simple.

The beauty....it's more than anything I can wrap my head around. It's a place of finally moving forward, of seeing dreams come to life, the reality everyone said was impossible...it's beginning to take shape....defying the odds and winning. It's years and years and yet more years....of tears and struggle and heartache. It's years of life lessons taught by some of the greatest mortal teachers that have passed through our life. It's 5 years of hell that are being used to lead others to freedom, to show others that anything is possible, and when you are just compassionate and live by the law of love....life begins to offer you things that most people never experience. To know intimately that to truly live is the rarest thing in the world.....that most people exist, that is all. And when you figure out the secret of life....all the world opens up to you.  It is love. As is. It is love that occupies the present. An ability to welcome into your home all that looks different than you. It is unconditional love, compassion, and a willingness to give selflessly without condition.

This is merely a continuation of a spiritual journey that was started long ago. And I will learn how to help people find whole health....spiritually, mentally, and physically. Free from religion. Free from self imposed limitations and self degradation. Free from the scale. I absolutely love to see people overcome. I love the world of essential oils and what we, as a family, are being able to witness as people and families find wellness from years of struggling with issues failing to be addressed by modern medicine. I love the fact that I have been enabled to help them. I love nutrition and seeing people made whole by lifestyle changes. I absolutely love seeing people conquer what they thought they never could. It is absolute fulfillment to watch a person discover their own inner power as they run a distance they thought they'd never reach, as they learn they can do anything, as they experience what it is to overcome all the no's in their head and push forward to overcome....and how that affects the entirety of their life.....so far beyond the momentary physical discomfort. But more than anything....I love watching people set free from the gray life of mediocrity...dreams that have flickered out somewhere along the road they have walked. To remind them that each of us are full of greatness and life can be lived in technicolor. We each are not only capable but we are full of compassion, kindness, and love. And sometimes people just need to be reminded of this....because when you remember how to love yourself....you truly feel good about who you are and all you are capable....it enables you to go out and love all those around you. On July 14th, our world will grow bigger yet again on this journey....and I will return to school so that I can help others know freedom like what I have come to know. I will remind people what it is to just live love. Without borders. Without boundaries. Without limitations. Without judgment.

Life is a beautiful gift. Let us remind the world what it is to live by the law of love. Live it outloud!

Just Pics

Because there's not time for more I'll leave you with pics that say it all. 90 day challenge has ensued, we have our 5 team members, and as a team leader that has much of my attention right now. Post on that to follow.

A little tiny bit of life in the quiet moments

For mobile users, to see this video click here.

When asked why in the world his loving brother wrote it like that on his arm, the answer..."So he could look at it and read it the right way!" Made me laugh. The arm on the left has "Navy Seal" "tattooed" on it with only the "AL" visible.

The non conformist

After dinner, before bedtime, down time. Letting off the last of the day's energy.

They constantly ask how I do it...shift husband, homeschooling, online classes, a business, home management, lots and lots of young kids, and many other irons in the fire. And....it just looks a lot like this most days. Kids schooling is done. This would be afternoon quiet...in pajama pants...after already waking up at 4:30 and working from 5-8am. Time management is key and overcoming setbacks and frustrations many, many times throughout the day  is just part of it. But the reward...the reward and gratification are unlike anything I have ever tasted. If we don't have a van to go places I'm at least going to spend my time constructively working for one. I have a vision. I have a goal. And I fully intend to get there.

"Discipline's more valuable than IQ. It's not the smartest who wins. It's the hardest working, most dedicated, and toughest."

I told them to get the dead bird off the property. That's not exactly what I had in mind.

That look!!! She cracks me up.

Morning coffee view, meditation, and some vision board focus.

Look who can climb these days.

And she's a little bit proud of it.

And she's off! 8 days before her birthday she decided it was time to walk.

7:00 am morning entertainment. I'm so thankful for a great landlady. Kids don't mind too much either. Every room with a view.
